Brief Overview of Error Code CE-34878-0
Above is a picture of the screen of what the full message will read when you get this error, of course with whatever application you are using, not just Battlefield 4. It’s a common error that can affect any application, most commonly games. We talked about it briefly in our Ultimate PS4 Error Code List, but now I will get into in more detail. It’s essentially the application crashing, so every time you’ll try to open it up, it will close and you will get this error.
I don’t have a PS4, but on my Xbox One I’ve gotten a similar error, so I know first hand how annoying an error like this can be. If you are trying to play your favorite game or trying to watch something on a streaming service like Hulu, it can be frustrating because it won’t fix itself.
The worst part of this error, which is unfortunately unavoidable, is that when the application crashes, all of your saved data will be deleted. For example, if you’re watching Netflix and you get this error in the middle of binge-watching your favorite show, when you get the app working again, it won’t remember where you were in the show. This just means you’ll have to go back a find the episode you were on and at what point in the show. Annoying, but not that big of a deal.
That is a minor inconvenience compared with what will happen if you are playing a story mode in a video game. If you are in the middle of a game where you save as you go and the game crashes, then you will lose all the saved data to that point. This is the time where you really don’t want to get the error, and it can be the most frustrating. All that time and accomplishment in the game lost because of a glitch. It drives me insane!
“For me, seeing the progression of video games and consoles – whether it be PlayStation, Xbox, or whatever – I think just seeing how good they’ve gotten from the days when I first started playing is just amazing.” – Justin Verlander
What Causes It?
It is caused by one of two things. It can result from corrupt data within the application itself, or the system’s software. Sometimes with error codes, you need to first figure out which possibility is causing the error before selecting which solution to use, as it varies depending on the cause.
However, in this case, the solution is the same, no matter what exactly is causing the error to occur. Luckily there are a couple of solution techniques that are simple to do, so you should have this problem fixed in no time if you follow the steps in the next section.
How to Fix It
There are three basic techniques that can be used to fix this error. They are all simple and don’t require much time from the user, however, two of them do require extensive downloading time from your system. So, I will give these in order from the least to the greatest amount of time, so this is the order you should do these in. Between doing each solution, restart your console and game and try again to open the application.
1. Restart the Application and Your Console
Yes I know it may seem trivial, but just rebooting the whole thing sometimes will correct this, and it takes hardly any time. Also while doing this, check to make sure that your system and application updates are current. If not, download them.
2. Reinstall the Application
To do this step, simply delete the specific application, and then download it again right after. The bad news is that you won’t be able to access the application for a while, because downloading may take several hours.
3. Re-install the PS4 System Software.
If this problem still persists, it’s obvious that the error is not in the game, but with the console. Therefore, although it will take a while, you’ll want to re-install the PS4 system software.
- To do this, go to Settings, then to Initialization, and choose Initialize PS4.
- This the simplest and most efficient way to start a complete re-install of your system’s software.
- You shouldn’t need to get to this point, but if you do, it should correct the error and prevent it from happening again.
Note: Make sure you backup everything that you want to be saved, as re-installing it will wipe the hard drive to keep that in mind. This is the last thing you should try, as it will reset everything to its factory defaults.
Other Tips
One thing that is annoying about this error is that sometimes when you go to open the application again, it will work originally, but then later it will crash again. If this happens, I would recommend just going through all three steps, just to make sure.
Just like nearly every other error code, if you’ve gone through all of the solutions that I provided and you still can’t get your applications to start running, you need to contact the PlayStation Support. Many times, they will run you through very similar steps to the ones above, and it makes the whole process and phone calls go much quicker if you’ve already done all of those steps. That just means they will be able to diagnosis the problem faster and get you back and up and working.
How To Prevent This Error
Knowing how to fix this error is great, but what if you could also do a couple of small things that could help prevent it from even happening? This is no way saying that if you do all of these that an application will never crash on you, it just decreases the likelihood.
Regularly Update Your Applications/Games
This is something you should be doing regardless, as it gives you a better experience with these applications overall, as that is what updates are designed for. Most people think of updates as the company adding cool new exciting features to their game or app.
While this is true sometimes, most often these updates are actually for improving bugs and glitches within the application. The company will be able to figure out if there is a glitch soon, as people will start to send crash reports and send stuff out on social media. Once the company identifies a glitch, they will work diligently to correct it and it should happen soon. You don’t want your favorite game to crash in the middle of playing just because you forgot to update it. Go to you PS4 center regularly, every couple of days, and check for updates.
Summary
PS4 is a great next-gen gaming console, but like any other pieces of technology, it is far from perfect. It has its bugs and glitches just like the rest and therefore is prone to many potential errors. Many times, it’s not even the consoles fault. Usually, the problem is within the application. You may not experience this particular error code, but odds are that you will get at least one while playing on your console.
My point of mentioning this is that no matter what error code you get, there are two pieces of advice that I can give you that will help with every single error code. The first being that restarting whatever system you are using is usually the first step that customer service will tell you and what our articles will tell you. I know that it seems like such a simple task, but you’d be surprised how many times it will work for you.
The second biggest thing with getting an error code is to remain calm. I’m personally bad at this step, as I can get frustrated easily because I expect this technology to work correctly. So I completely understand people who get angry with it. However, yelling and getting mad won’t do anything to help you fix this problem. Simply take a deep breath and know that if you remain calm and patient, you’ll be able to fix most error codes yourself.
With this article, I’m sure that you learned everything you need to know about how to fix this annoying error code. This is an important article for PS4 users because if you play a lot, you have a good chance of getting Error Code CE-34878-0. But, with these steps and solutions, you should have no problem with it and should be able to get whatever application that was affected back up and running correctly. If you still have questions about this error code, make sure to leave a comment below and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
